Abstract. The volumes of snowfalls, the parameters of the existing forest belts and snow-prefabricated pools are determined. Based on the results of surveys and operating experience, snow-bearing sections of the road were identified. As the long-standing practice of snow-fighting on the roads shows, the cleaning of roads from snow alone in most cases cannot ensure uninterrupted operation of road transport. During road reconstruction or overhaul, there are often problems with snow protection in the future. The most appropriate is the design of permanent snow protection, as more reliable and less costly in operation. The purpose of the work is to develop proposals for the installation of permanent snow protection during the reconstruction and major overhaul of the M-03 highway Kyiv - Kharkiv - Dovzhanskyi on the section from Boryspil to Lubny. Inspection of the road section is performed with the purpose of establishing the basic parameters of the existing permanent snow protection, determining the characteristics of the snow ponds and collecting data on the snow-covered sections of the road by experience of their operation. When selecting trees and shrubs, it is imperative to consider the plant conditions and, above all, the soil conditions of future forest planting areas. Basic variants of forest placement and blending schemes for different plant conditions have been proposed. Reliable protection of the road from snowstorms will help to avoid interruptions in the movement of road transport, significantly reduce transport costs and losses of the national economy associated with snow drifts. In addition, the road cleaning of snow becomes considerably simplified and cheaper.
